Meet Tawanda.

Tawanda is a Barred Plymouth Rock hen who came to Rainbow Connection Farm with her two sisters and a tiny chick.

The little chick had suffered a serious back injury after being shipped from a breeder to a store. Despite being cared for after coming to us, he didn't make it past eight weeks old.

Tawanda and her sisters stayed.

Today, they're part of our farm family, where Tawanda gets to spend her days doing the things chickens are meant to do—scratching, exploring, spending time with her flock, and simply being a chicken.

Her story also reminds us that behind the chicks we see for sale in stores are living animals whose journeys sometimes begin with long-distance shipping when they are incredibly small and vulnerable.
