Meet Tawanda.
Tawanda is a Barred Plymouth Rock hen who came to Rainbow Connection Farm with her two sisters and a tiny chick.
The little chick had suffered a serious back injury after being shipped from a breeder to a store. We cared for him after he came to the farm, but sadly, he didn't make it past eight weeks old.
Tawanda and her sisters stayed.
Today, Tawanda gets to spend her days scratching, exploring, resting, and spending time with her flock—the wonderfully ordinary things that make up a good life for a chicken.
Her story also reminds us that the tiny chicks we see for sale in stores are living animals whose journeys can begin with shipping and transportation when they are incredibly young and vulnerable.
