Meet Prudence.
Prudence came to Rainbow Connection Farm with Terrapin, a disabled chicken who had severe problems with her back.
Terrapin needed extra care, and Prudence was her companion. For about eight months, the two shared life together at the farm until Terrapin passed away.
But Prudence's story here wasn't finished.
After losing her friend, Prudence found a new role. Whenever rescued chickens or new babies joined the farm, she became the one who helped welcome them. She watches over the younger birds, stays close to newcomers, and has become a kind of mama hen to the flock.
The chicken who once came here as a companion to one vulnerable bird now helps make the coop feel like home for many others.
Sometimes caring for one another becomes part of who we are.
