Mavis actually chose Rainbow Connection Farm for herself.
She once lived a few pastures away, but she kept breaking into our pasture to be near us and our horses. Mavis was lonely, and apparently she had decided exactly where she wanted to belong.
Her earlier life had not been easy. Mavis had experienced abuse from a previous owner and reached a point where she refused to allow anyone to ride her.
Eventually, Mavis was released into our care, and she didn't have to break into the pasture anymore. It was finally hers.
Today, Mavis is the lead mare of our little herd. She's confident, happy, and surrounded by the horses and people she kept trying so hard to reach.
And something else changed—not because it was demanded of her, but because trust grew. Mavis now even allows Britt to ride her bareback.
